“For almost 135 years, Schülke & Mayr GmbH (schülke) has been one of the world’s leading manufacturers of products and services in the fields of infection prevention and treatment as well as hygiene and wound care. With our innovative developments, we as a company make a significant contribution to today’s hygiene standards.
With our strong brands, such as octenisept®, kodan®, desderman® and Microshield®, we are one of the international market leaders in the field of wound and mucous membrane antiseptics as well as hand and surface disinfection in German hospitals.
With our wide range of high-quality and innovative products, expert advice and reliable service, we offer holistic concepts for the treatment and prevention of infections in professional healthcare, in the pharmaceutical sector and for end consumers – worldwide. People in more than 80 countries around the world rely on our products every day.
A look at our history illustrates the pioneering spirit that is deeply rooted in our company: in 1889, the ship captain Rudolf Schülke and the businessman Julius Mayr founded Schülke & Mayr GmbH in Hamburg and – after thorough testing for suitability by Robert Koch – acquired the world patent for the production of the first disinfectant Lysol.
The use of this product made it possible to combat the cholera epidemic raging in Hamburg in 1892. The success is documented by a certificate from the Hanseatic city.
We have always relied on our strong research department and have continuously launched other successful products on the market. We achieved another milestone with the approval of the drug octenisept®: schülke revolutionized wound care in 1990 by launching a colorless and painless wound antiseptic on the market for the first time.
Since then, octenisept® has become an integral part of the professional medical field and is used in many households as a wound antiseptic for young and old.
Infectious diseases pose major challenges for the healthcare system and society. Infectious pathogens know no borders – this has always been true and is all the more important in today’s globalized world! At the latest since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, this has also become widely known.
schülke has over 20 subsidiaries and production sites in Germany (schülke), France (Bioxal) and Brazil (Vic Pharma). Companies with specific fields of application and markets such as Prosenio GmbH, Vesismin Health and Wet Wipe A/S are also part of the schülke Group*.”
